Dr. Indrani Barpujari
Dr. Indrani Barpujari is a social anthropologist and lawyer, with specialization in IPRs. An alumnus of the University of Delhi, Indian Law Institute and Gauhati University, her Ph.D. work, pursued under ICSSR doctoral fellowship, focused on customary laws. Before joining AIGGPA in January 2016, she had worked at the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), New Delhi from 2009-2015, had served as Policy Analyst at Gene Campaign, New Delhi from 2004 to 2009 and interned at the Anand and Anand Law Associates, New Delhi in 2003.
She has experience of fifteen years conducting research on governance and public policy; NRM; law, science, society; IPRs and sustainable development; governance of emerging technologies; risk regulation, biodiversity conservation and traditional knowledge etc. She has led a number of evidence-based projects on different aspects of governance including corruption, public grievance redressal, government litigation, urban local bodies, public prosecution, implementation of the FRA etc. She has led a study funded by the Norwegian Embassy for developing an IPR roadmap for Asia to deal with climate change. She was Principal Investigator in a GEF-UNDP-MoEFCC research project to develop a legal regime to protect TK within the guidelines of the Biological Diversity Act. She has been part of a research project sponsored by IDRC Canada to evolve a governance framework on nanotechnology in India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. She had a leading role in drafting the e-waste regulation for the Royal Kingdom of Bhutan.
Dr. Barpujari has published her work in scopus indexed journals like the Economic and Political Weekly, International Indigenous Policy Journal, Journal of Intellectual Property Rights etc. She has presented her work both in India and abroad such as at the University of Bergen, Norway; Technische Universitat, Darmstadt; University of Twente, Netherlands; Maastricht University, Arizona State University, Deutsches Musuem, Munich, Musuem of Natural History, Paris, JNU, IIT-K, IISc. She is a member of the Society for the Study of Nanoscience and Emerging Technologies, the American Nano Society and others.
