This project evaluated the implementation and impact of the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013 in Madhya Pradesh, covering the period from March 1, 2021, to December 30, 2021. The NFSA aims to combat food deprivation and hunger by ensuring access to subsidized food grains through the Public Distribution System (PDS). The study assessed 75 households in four sampled districts, evaluating accessibility, leakage, quality, and pricing of food grains. It also examined the inclusion and exclusion criteria for beneficiaries, as well as awareness and usage of intra-state and inter-state portability facilities. While the distribution of entitlements under the PMGKAY and Atma Nirbhar Bharat Schemes was found to be efficient, the study highlighted gaps in awareness about ration card eligibility and some operational challenges at Fair Price Shops (FPS). The findings provide actionable insights to enhance the delivery and effectiveness of food security programs in the region.
